This is my first FM transmitter. Here are my main points:
-It works, but even after tweaking the stations and cable location it’s pretty quiet and the sound quality is not great. It varies, since it is radio based. It is generally quite listenable though.
-The USB charger is helpful.
-It does remember your station settings.
It’s so freaking cheap, it’s totally worth it. In the future I may look for something with more signal strength / vol, but this was like $4. Good value.
Great look. I initially thought this wouldn’t work too well in my car becuase of the permanent angle it has to it but I was wrong, looks great in my 06′ ford focus and is very functional the way it sits. A big plus is nothing is hanging off of the unit, no cords and no additional mess.
The USB placement is very POOR. As others have said you may find that you have to plug in the USB cable before plugging in the FM transmitter and the cord will likely be bent after the use – not the point where it ruins your cable though. If they would have placed the port facing to the side rather then the back this would get full stars.
I find to get the best sound I turn my player (Slacker G2) up all the way and adjust the car radio level from there. I find this is necessary because I don’t have any blank channels and only a few static stations where I live and will tend to get static if I have to crank my radio volume. Overall this was just figuring out what worked best for me.
For those of you that don’t truly understand what a FM transmitter is then let me try and explain. A transmitter put your signal out to your radio, if you search through your stations and can’t find one that is blank or just static then don’t buy one… no matter the brand. Those that complained they can’t find a radio station to tune to and blame the transmitter are in need of this information as NO FM transmitter will work – look for a FM modulator instead.
Overall I am happy with this and surprised that it works this well. By design FM transmitters play lower quality then hooking directly to your radio via a direct input or a CD would. If your radio doesn’t have this and you don’t want to spend the money to buy a new radio, buy an upgrade kit for your current radio or a FM modulator then in general a FM transmitter is you best option.
This is solid unit that gets the job done!
I had hoped that this work for my LG Dare phone music. It just does not live up to my standards. I was not expecting high-fidelity sound, but is not expected to be up to my stereo so that you can hear. I would like also to change the stations every five minutes. I returned the device and immediately ordered a set of hands-free Jabra SP700 Bt (which is almost a perfect product).
This device works well and looks good. Of course, the FM modulated device will never be as good as the sound device directly plug-in, but my experience, it is far better than average sound quality. I also like the equipment to handle functions such as parent and easy to read blue-backlit display. The ability to charge USB devices is super nice feature not really needed to appreciate until one time! Finally, I like that the audio plug is not hard wired like most others I've had … So it is much less potential that the device will be destroyed when the cord is wrapped around something and accidentally yanked at the end of the vehicle (think I may be once or twice to other similar products, huh?). Good job on this one, Scosche!
looks great, much more compact and sleek design makes it more visually attractive. we simply do not work, as well as the Belkin tunecast II. USB charger with a website is helpful, but still need performance, and it got only a few is not enough to command a higher price than Belkin tunecast II. Happy hunting, ladies and gentlemen
